The Tooth Fairy - David - Second Hour

[Figure 1]

She is known as the most loving imaginary character that has entered the life lives of children. Some say she is the most beautiful women ever created and other say she is the ugliest most horrific women to walk the Earth. She is known as the “Tooth Fairy” She travels from room to room in search of lost teeth. Once found no one knows what she does with the teeth but there are many conspiracies as to what the she does with the teeth and whether or not she is real. I believe that she just merely a playful character that parents have created to bring excitement to their children’s lives.

The tale of the tooth fairy originated in Europe in the 19th century. Although in the United States she is known as a peaceful loving fairy, in England she is considered to be a dreadful witch. In England after every tooth that is lost they burn it and if they don’t they will suffer the consequences. They believe that every tooth contains our own natural power otherwise known as chi. It is said that if not burned that the evil tooth fairy will take their tooth and remove their power from it and give it to the demons among us, leaving us weak and powerless the more and more the demons use our power.

We ourselves have created our own version of the tooth fairy in the United States. We consider her as a nice lovely fairy that wonders from room to room in search of the teeth. The catch is that the only time she comes out is when we are asleep. So, if she comes out when we are asleep how do we know if she even exists? In our culture we change original stories just to add excitement to our lives for example, in 2003 the movie “Darkness falls’ was created to portray that the tooth fairy was a horrific women that terrorized children that tried to acknowledge her existence. With some many stories how do we know that she is really out there?

Many people change stories to what they want and don’t accept how it naturally came to be. There are so many versions of the legend of the tooth fairy but how do we know what to believe when there are so many stories out there. I myself feel that England’s story of the tooth fairy is the most believable because there is much more evidence that show witches existed and since she was considered a witch it is more convincing that she was is out there. It is difficult to determine fact from fiction, but when it comes to the tooth fairy I think it’s safe to say that it depends on your sense of judgment.
