Dover Demon - Lauren - Sixth Hour

[Figure 1]
Back in 1977, over a course of about two days, there was a mysterious creature sighting. The funny thing about it was how realistic this “animal” seemed for the time being. There were three reports of a small figure, about four feet tall, with long lanky limbs, and fingers to grip onto things, such as bricks on walls, or rocks. Another trait that this “demon” seemed to possess was its glowing orange eyes. In one report, a girl claimed that the creature had glowing green eyes, but that never seemed to change the general idea of what the Dover Demon looked like. Today, it is portrayed as the picture above, orange eyes included. Oftentimes, the Dover Demon is referred to as a “humanoid or even alien. The majority of people can agree that this suits the creature well, as based on reports. All three reports took place in Dover, Massachusetts, within a three-mile radius of each other. In all honesty, I do believe this creature once existed, but for a limited amount of time.

The first sighting to take place happened at about 10:30 p.m., on Farm Street, by 17 year-old Bill Bartlett. According to him, the creature was lurking around in the darkness on the side of the road near a stone wall. It only took about an hour for the second sighting to be reported, by 15 year-old John Baxter, while he was on his way to his girlfriend’s house. At first, he swore it was a kid he knew, but once he got a better look, he knew it wasn’t. Once the creature spotted Baxter though, it immediately ran off into a gully, and latched onto a tree. The third and final spotting took place the next day, and was seen from a couple’s car. Abby Brabham, who was 15 at the time, and her boyfriend, Will Traintor, claimed to see the same creature as described in previous reports. The only difference, as said before, was the eye color, which from Abby’s perspective, was glowing green. Though all three reports were from teens, that doesn’t mean they were false. Loren Coleman, a cryptozoologist, claims that the kids were not pranksters, and would not have any reason to be lying. After setting up a team to look into the Dover Demon case, Coleman concluded that the sightings were not set up, or a hoax. His team even checked nearby ranches, to see if maybe the “demon” was actually a loose calf, or a stray baby moose. After asking the owners of the ranches, none said they had ever lost any of their animals. After that was out of the question, they weren’t too sure if there was anything else this creature could possibly be. It turns out, the teenagers that had reported the sightings had nothing to do with each other, or had any knowledge of the reports before.

The existence of aliens has always been pretty trivial. Everyone seems to have their own opinions on whether they are actually real. There have been multiple accounts of alien sightings, all varying from each other. The Dover Demon is a good example of this “variation.” The glowing eyes, the long limbs; those are two of the traits the Dover Demon possesses. Like I said before, there were three reports of the sighting, all different teenagers who had no idea that there had been previous reports. All three reports were about the same, except for one, which differed because of the eye color. If you take a close look at the drawing the witnesses were told to sketch, you’ll notice this “creature” has no nose or mouth. Not even any ears. How would it be possible for an animal to live, without a nose, mouth, or ears? In the sketches, it looks as if there is no way the animal can eat, breathe, or hear. All it depends on is its sight. So if it can’t breathe, or eat, how does it live? All living things on this planet need oxygen, without it, they will die. This could also prove that the Demon is not from earth. That also goes along with the alien theory a few have. That there are in fact, other beings out there. If this is true, why would the Dover Demon come to earth? There are many things to consider here.

At one point in time, I do believe that the Dover Demon may have existed. Then again, I’m not one for believing in things such as aliens, and humanoids. I do find it pretty interesting that all three witnesses had nothing to do with each other, or even know each other. And the fact that all three reports came with the same information, and the teenagers had no knowledge of the previous reports, just seemed to make this case a little more believable. The information that can make it seem like a hoax though, is the Dover Demon’s lack of a mouth, or a nose. Sure, it could live on earth without the ears, but the mouth and nose are mandatory for things such as breathing, or eating. Overall, I don’t think this animal exists today, but possibly, at one point in time, it may have.
