Jersey Devil - Christena - Sixth Hour

Jersey devil, mythical creature of New Jersey, Pinelands, has haunted. New Jersey and the surrounding areas for the past 260 years. Over 2,000 witnesses have seen this, this creature has been known to have terrorized towns, factories, and schools. Many people believe it originated from the New Jersey, Pine Barrens.

There are three species of evidence that ties all of the legends of the Jersey Devils origin together, the first thing that ties the legends together, are the name “Leeds.” Whether the mother’s name was Leeds or the birth place was Leeds point, all of the stories include the name Leeds. Alfred Hesston, the Atlantic country historian, believes that the devil could be Leeds or a Shrouds baby. He discovered that a Daniel Leeds opened land in Great Egg Harbor, NJ in 1699. His family lived in Leeds point, later on in the years he discovered a boy named Samuel shrouds, sr. came to Little Egg Harbor, NJ in 1735 and lived right across the river from the house of mother Leeds. The third fact ties in the Burlington story with the other stories. Professor Fred McFadden of cooping state college, Baltimore, found that a “devil” was mentioned in writings from Burlington as early as 1735. This means that the name that is now used for the birthplace such as Leeds point or Estelle Ville, could be the same place returned in the Burlington Legends. So if all these legends “seem” to be true what do you think?

Many different versions of the birth of the Jersey Devil. One of the most popular legends says a Mrs. Shrouds of Leeds point, NJ, made a wish that if she ever had another child, she would want it to be a devil. Her next child was born misshapen and deformed. She kept it in the house so the curious couldn’t see him. On a stormy night, the child flapped it’s arms, which turn into wings and escaped out the chimney and was never seen by the family again. Mrs. Bowen of Leeds point said “The Jersey Devil was born in the shrouds house at Leeds point.” Another story that also placed the birth of Leeds point said that a young girl fell in love with a British soldier during the revolution war. The people of Leeds point cursed her. When she gave birth, she had a devil; some people believe that the birth of a devil was punishment for the mistreatment of a minister by the Leeds folk. Another story placed the birth in Estelle Ville, NJ. Mrs. Leeds, of Estelle found out she was pregnant with her 13th child and she shouted out “I hope it is a devil” Later on that when she had her child she had gotten her wish. The child was born with horns, tails, and a horse-like head. The creature revisited Mrs. Leeds everyday, she would stand at her door and told it to leave after a couple time of visiting her it got the hint and never returned.

Over 2,000 witnesses have claimed to see the mythical creature, meaning that if they did wouldn’t there are million of pictures all over the internet? Well my opinion is that I don’t believe this is real. There is a club out there called the devil hunting foundation and someone was interviewed about the Jersey Devil. “I have heard so many strange stories from so many witnesses and I’ve experienced some strange events over my time while investigating I truly think that some of these people have definitely run into something they could not have explained.” Many of people still believe it exists today but did it even begin to or was it another creature that someone couldn’t and just call it the “Jersey Devil” or was it that someone was bored one day and made up some story that would catch everyone’s attention? Your turn to believe or not to believe.

Argentavis Magnificens (Thunderbird) - Ebonaire - Sixth Hour

Argentavis Magnificens means giant bird, another name for it is Thunderbird. Teratorn is another name for it and its bones all together could weigh up to 170 pounds and even with its massive weight it could still fly. I do believe that at one time birds may have been as large as these appear to be. I also believe that now they are extinct. These birds were believe to have a wingspan of 25ft and they were 11ft in length from beak to tail and some say they even had the strength to pick up small animals and eat them.

There is credible evidence of a giant bird. On Tuesday evening, September 25th 2001. A 19-year-old witness a thunderbird. He was walking and he heard what sounded like flags flapping in a thunderstorm and it was a giant grayish and brownish bird that landed on a tree. He witnessed it for an entire 90 seconds before it flew away and disappeared into the clouds. Another was on June 13th a witness thought he saw a ultra light aircraft or a small plane about 50ft above him or so but after a few minutes of viewing he realized it was a blackish grayish bird. He watched it for 20 minutes before it was gone.

There is also uncredible evidence of giant birds that seems incredibly far-fetched. A witness whose name did not appear claimed that he/she saw a giant bird abduct a small child. Many of these witnesses are very uncredible in a sense of them not claiming where the bird went and where they even were them selves at the time.
